posterous instead of twitpic

reason number #1 I like using @posterous instead of @twitpic: my pictures aren't next to a ugly ad about a guy who lost 300 pounds

@garrytan there are other reasons I love @posterous too. Keep up the great work!

Twitter Postings: Iterative Design (Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox)

Text is a UI

It's a common mistake to think that only full-fledged graphical user interfaces count as interaction design and deserve usability attention. As our earlier research has shown, URLs and email both contribute strongly to the Internet user experience and thus require close attention to usability to enhance the profitability of a company's Internet efforts.

In fact, the shorter it is, the more important it is to design text for usability.

Some true words in here, even though i think you shouldn't spend too long thinking about your single tweets. For business okay, it's important to do so to get the best chance people will see and click, but still... i'd compare it to the subject of a newsletter. People will open it if they are interested and the subject caught their eye. Really important is WHEN you send/tweet it, i think.

How to send videos from your iPhone 3G (not S) to posterous and twitter

... and a lot more locations if you like.

What you need is
1. a jailbroken iPhone 3G
2. a Pixelpipe account
3. the Pixelpipe iPhone app (free) ITS
4. Cycorder via Cydia
5. ppVideoEnabler via Cydia

This is probably not new but i just found ppVideoEnabler today when i searched for "video" in Cydia. I already had Pixelpipe on my iPhone and used it before OS 3.0 added support for uploading multiple pictures. With Pixelpipe that was possible even before 3.0. Anyway now i can record Videos with Cycorder and after installing ppVideoEnabler they appear in the media-list within Pixelpipe.

You have to set up your Pixelpipe-destinations (pic 5) like posterous, flickr, facebook, etc (the list is huge) and then use the desired destination-tag (@posterous here, see pic 9). Just like pictures the .mov files get uploaded to Pixelpipe and then forwarded to the destinations you tagged it with.

I have set up a destination with the email "twitter@posterous.com" so i can send media to twitter with a post.ly link. Here's an example

Pixelpipe can be used on other mobile devices as well. See tools.

Oh and one more advantage, when your iPhone gets synched iPhoto copies the .mov files as well, so you don't need to use fugu to download them via Wifi anymore.

A tribute to MJ (free song)

very nice (free) song

p.diddy spread it on twitter yesterday.

some personal words:

his death has been a hype topic on twitter and elsewhere since it was made public and some people started making fun of it or got upset by the mass of tweets concerning the topic. i do not understand this. yes every hype topic is disturbing for some in their timeline (tv shows, polititcs ,... ) but you cannot pretend that this is not important to talk about this for some people that at least want to say goodbye or something - show a little respect in a way. We are all human, we have a social core, some more, some less. if you don't want to read it keep your twitter clients closed or unfollow then follow back. I do think this has something to do with respect- also for those who tweet about it. Kind of "being part of it", some people probably feel better when they know and realize that they are not alone with their emotions and thoughts - generally or in this case. yes, most of all the people didn't know MJ in person but they can still have feelings for him or his music and about his death now. I don't think it's just hype. Twitter is communication, communication means good and bad, ups and downs, not always funny, not always rational - we are human, right?

Michael Jacksons music and the rumors and stories about his life have been part of my childhood and teenage years and until now. I am not a super-fan or something but i liked his music and what effect it had on the music and dance world. I was curious about the planned final tour that was about to begin in a few days... He was a crazy guy in ways i like and in some i don't understand and don't really know much about. But so be it, i do wanna show respect and say i was shocked by the news. Understand it or not...

Once more : Rest in peace

potential twitpic alternatives

last edited: 2010-02-22 (by @assbach)

my favorites as real alternatives are marked with a *

what most of them are missing is a real app-implementation for tweetdeck, tweetie, twitphone etc...

some of them have nice stats, comments, and other features... check yourself :)
